First Batch Of Insulation Off to Testing

August 31, 2023
Kionnali is excited to announce the shipment of its first batch of sustainable insulation samples for testing! These samples are made from sustainable, biodegradable materials, which won't pollute the soil or leach microplastics.

We Have Just Shipped Our First Batch of Sustainable Insulation Samples for Testing!

We are very excited to announce that Kionnali has just reached another significant milestone—we've sent out our first box of insulation samples for rigorous testing! These samples are made from sustainable, biodegradable materials, which won't pollute the soil or leach microplastics. We are shipping them to our partners at the University of Strathclyde so they can test them and tell us which formula works the best! Then we will wrap them in our sustainable shell, vacuum them, and go for our next round of testing.

Below is what the box looked like when it was half full:

All packaged up and ready to go!

📊 Focused Testing

This round of testing isn't just a formality; it's a deep dive into the science of insulation. We're zeroing in on compression testing and pore size to identify the best-performing samples from our diverse range. The data will be instrumental in refining our products for maximum efficiency.

🌳 Why The Cute Crate?

In line with our sustainability ethos, we've ditched the traditional cardboard packaging. Instead, we've designed a softwood shipping crate that minimizes the use of glue and that can be reused endlessly, making the entire shipping process more eco-friendly. We also used sustainable tape and recycled paper for printing the labels. We had some fun with it too, and etched in our logo and slogan. We thought it came out pretty cute, and we hope that this packaging puts a smile on the face of everyone who handles it!

🌿 The Future of Insulation

Our samples are more than just pieces of material; they represent a new era in insulation technology. Designed to offer superior thermal efficiency, these samples are made entirely from renewable resources, setting a new standard in the industry.

🚀 The Next Steps

Once we've gathered the data from this round of testing, the selected samples formulas will proceed to being integrated with a sturdy shell to create a structural panel. They will then be shipped off for the next round of testing. This will be a crucial phase in validating the effectiveness of our insulation technology. From there, we are planning to work with our innovation specialist at Scottish Enterprise to engineer for production, and then we will establish a manufacturing partner who can help us bring these to market!

🏠 And the Roamstead Demonstrator?

These panels are not just about retrofitting old buildings. When attached to our demonstrator, they will play the important role of keeping the inhabitants at a safe temperature during a heatwave and increasing the Roamstead's fire resistance, as well as making the Roamstead extremely hard to break into. They will be the thick skin of our home, keeping their inhabitants safe and comfortable.

🌍 Beyond the Box

While the shipment of our sustainable insulation samples is a significant milestone, it's just one piece of a much larger puzzle. At Kionnali, we're on a mission to build homes that not only protect from disasters but also adapt to changes in your life and environment. Our Roamstead is designed to be a self-sufficient, off-grid smart house that deploys anywhere in minutes. It's not just about insulation; it's about reimagining the systems that sustain you. From food and energy to water and waste, the Roamstead is a holistic solution for a sustainable future.

🎉 What's Next?

With the samples off for testing, we're eager to gather data that will help us refine our products further. Stay tuned for updates on the test results and the next steps in our journey towards sustainable construction.
